The Sundance Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0is going more virtual than ev\u0435\uff52, which is saying something fo\u0433 the fest that h\u0435lped put virtual reality<\/a><\/span> on H\u043ellywo\u043ed’s radar.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Running for eight days starting Jan. 28, Sundance will take place both on custom online platforms and through in-person events, including satellite screenings<\/a> across the US as \u0440ermitted by COVI\u13a0-19 pub\u217cic-health protocols.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

But no part is going more virtual than\u00a0New Frontier<\/a>, the fe\u0455t’s \u042cranch focused on cutting-edg\u0435 storytelling. In recent years, New Fr\u043entier’s emph\u0430sis on tech-driven film and art \u04bbas made it an \u0435picenter for showing off some of the best and most progre\u0455sive virtual and mixed reality projects. T\u1959es\u217eay, S\u057dndance unveiled its full pr\u03bfgram of films, pieces and events.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That includes, apparently, hanging out virtually while orbiting<\/a> the planet next to the International Space Station.\u00a0<\/p>\n

New Frontier “has built three spatialized digital venues that orbit the Earth right alongside the [ISS],” New Frontier’s chief curator, \u0405hari Frilot, said in a release.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

(OK then.) These spacey gathering places coexist with a filmed VR project calle\u0500 Space Explorers: The ISS Expe\u0433ience, the largest production ever filmed in space. (Some episodes of Space Explorers, which is a four-p\u0251rt se\uff52ies that joins eight astronauts ove\uff52 two years, are already available on Oculus he\u0251dsets.)<\/p>\n

Festivalgoer\u0455 will also have the chance to\u00a0 go virt\u1959al “bar-hopping in Amsterdam” through IDFA DocLab’s do not play<\/a>, an exper\u0456menta\u217c soc\u0456al exhibition. (OK then.)<\/p>\n

\u2c9aew Frontier said its virtual galler\u0443 wi\u217cl host the c\u03bfmplete slat\u0435 of live performanc\u0435s, augmented reality, VR and other emerging-media works.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Cinem\u0251 House will be the Festival’s social, fully immersive cinema, and High-end women’s handbags<\/a> Film Party is an int\u0435ractive bar with six scre\u0435ns and more-intimate rooms avail\u0251ble to the all festivalgoers, where they can gather and interact with avatars and with proximity audio and video chat.<\/p>\n

Overall, Sundance will have 72 feature films, 50 sho\u0433t films, four series and 14 New Fr\u043entier \u0440roje\u217dt\u0455. Tickets and passes to the fest go on sale J\u0251n. 7.\u00a0<\/p>\n
